CONTAINERS WITH GOODS FOR KOSOVO

WILL BE DELIVERED VIA PORT SVISHTOV INSTEAD OF THESSALONIKI

On 19th and 20th of June 2008 a delegation from Kosovo studied the opportunities for having part of cargos in containers coming from China to Kosovo go through the Danube containers terminal at International Port Svishtov.             Businessmen from the new Balkan state Kosovo examined the port and became familiar to its capacity and the opportunities it provides.            The purpose of their visit is to develop a new alternative for receiving containers with goods from Asia using the intercept port Konstanca - port Svishtov instead of Thessaloniki, and then have them delivered to Kosovo by road transport.  Owing to its existing capacity for handling container cargos, Port Svishtov is subject of particular interest for businesspeople and dealers from Kosovo.             As the delegation from Kosovo confirmed, the most promising and suitable route for having goods delivered in containers from the Far East and the states from the CIS to Kosovo, is that via Port Svishtov.
The new Balkan state is a land-locked country with no access to a continental waterway, therefore ensuring the safety of deliveries is a serious problem.              Port Svishtov is the southernmost port on the Danube and provides the shortest connection to the inland of Bulgaria and the Southwestern Balkan states Kosovo and Macedonia. This renders it a suitable gateway for Kosovo to the states of CIS and Asia, our visitors claimed.

In addition to deliveries in containers, Port Svishtov obviously offers an opportunity for deliveries of loose cargos and metals to Kosovo and Macedonia, an opportunity which the former Yugoslavian territory that declared its sovereignty as soon as 2008, also considers interesting.
